Additional Covid-19 Protection Rules for visitors to The Dog Training Barn - to be read in conjunction with General Rules below.
Staying COVID - secure at The Dog Training Barn
We are very pleased to be opening the Barn and the Astroturf Paddock again. We have had to make several adjustments to the way we operate to minimise the risk of spreading Covid and these are shown below.
However, first we must ask that if you have any symptoms of Covid, or have been socialising with anyone who has, then please do not come to the Barn - contact us (or whoever your booking is with) asap and we will arrange another booking.
We have looked at all the Government guidelines and taken advice from the County Council. We have carried out a risk assessment to identify sensible measures we can all take to minimise the risk.
We have consulted those who work here and some of our regular visitors and we have carried out some trial activities to test out some new procedures. We will keep these under review and make any necessary changes as required. Click here for the formal Risk Assessment we are required to publish.
First though there are three very important measures which we need to keep in force at all times for everyone who works at or visits The Barn:
Face masks are not currently required at the Barn except for agility “course-walking” in small group - see below. Masks do make breathing and communication more difficult. However they may be worn if you prefer.
Cleanliness measures
We are cleaning/disinfecting toilets, surfaces, door handles etc at least daily. Hand-sanitisers are in place at the entrances, in the Schoolroom and in the toilets. Normal hand washing facilities are also in place. Please only use the toilets if essential and disinfect them after use. Anti-virus spray and paper towels are in the toilets. Please also bring your own hand-sanitisers if you wish.
Social distances
If you are sitting down, standing still or walking slowly, please maintain at least 2 metres/6 feet distance from others. If you are running your dog on a course or doing other energetic activities please maintain 3 metres distance from others. This will allow the recommended “airspace” of 100 sq ft around you.
Ventilation
When in use all toilet and Schoolroom windows and the Barn doors must be left open to allow maximum airflow. Please adjust according to temperature/wind.
Further measures to reduce the spread of Covid
Avoid shouting, loud music, radios etc as these all make normal conversation difficult and also encourage others to reduce social distancing. Avoid “sharing” objects: leads, toys, equipment etc and leave doors & gates open whenever possible. One-way routes are in use with separate entrance gates for the Barn and Astroturf Paddock and separate doors for entry and exit for the Barn. Please follow the guidance on the signs at entrances.
Reducing Capacity to avoid overcrowding
To maintain safe distancing and a maximum amount of fresh circulating air numbers attending any Barn activities must be limited. The numbers allowed may vary depending on the activity being undertaken and the location (i.e. Schoolroom, Barn, Astroturf Paddock or the Exercise Paddocks) but the general rule is to follow the guidance on social distances and ventilation requirements above.
Currently we are allowed only 5 “Trainees” and 1 “Trainer/Host” in The Barn at any one time. Numbers allowed in the Astroturf and Exercise Paddocks will be advised on a case by case basis – please contact us for details. In any event the general rules on social distancing above must be followed in all locations.
Any additional personnel (waiting groups, spouses, partners, drivers, children etc) must wait in the car park and avoid contact with others. Separate guidelines for shows and other events are available by request. Please email for details.
Food and drink
Apart from personal bottled water and hot drink flasks, food and drinks are not normally to be consumed in the Barn. For longer courses special arrangements will be made.
Supervision
We ask all trainers/organisers who use The Barn, Astroturf or exercise paddocks to brief and supervise their clients to maintain these measures. We also ask them to keep a record (date, name and contact number) of all attendees for 21 days, to aid the national “track and trace” programme. We will record and keep contact details of all who make Barn bookings.
All these measures will be kept under review and adjusted as Government guidelines and instructions permit. We will let you know of any changes as soon as we do!
We look forward to seeing you at the barn again soon and ask you to do all you can to help us to avoid the spread of Covid.
